Building Relationships with People in Christ

September 7, 2021 Finance Committee Meeting     (H)

Items to be included in Session's consent agenda – none*

Items to be voted upon or needing discussion by Session – * none (unless Pastor’s research determines that Session needs to vote on insurance renewal – see 7 below)

Items for information only – see below – Especially note need for budget requests – see 8 below

Members present – Ed Ingram, Bill Melewski, Sandy Moore, & Linda Schumacher.  Pastor Elizabeth was also present, and Paul Luce joined us via speaker phone.

Members absent – Barry Holmes, Don Pine, & Don Young

Ed Ingram began our meeting with a terrific devotional and prayer about heart-lead stewardship.

 1.  August Minutes were approved

2.  Financial Secretary Report

·         Nothing to report

 3.  Treasurer's Report (see August 2021 reports in Drop Box)

·         Paul reviewed the August reports with the committee.  Considering all the recent repairs including the unexpected new air conditioning for the offices, our financial picture is still doing ok.

·         Since the $95,000.00 that was transferred from savings was transferred to pay bills, it is reflected in H1 “Church Repairs” rather than on H2 “Transfer from Savings”

·         August Treasurer’s Reports were approved.

4.  2022 Stewardship Campaign – the following additional plans were made

Ø  Ed will compose this year’s letter using parts of today’s devotional and incorporating the theme “Better Together”.  He will have a draft for our next meeting on 10/18 and Linda will print and mail it out along with the pledge form no later than the middle of the next week

Ø  Pastor Elizabeth will create a graphic for this year’s campaign

Ø  Sandy will give the introductory Stewardship “talk” and find another couple of folks to share their stewardship thoughts on following Sundays.  Note:  we will have guest ministers on 10/10 & 10/17

Ø  Pastor Elizabeth will give a special stewardship sermon on Pledge Sunday, November 7

 5.  Capital Campaign

Ø  The Finance Committee agreed that we wanted to allow some time between our annual stewardship campaign and whatever means we take to try to recoup some of the $95000.00 we’ve taken from savings – whether that is a Capital Campaign, fund raising from outside sources or a combination of both

Ø  Further discussion about this was tabled until January 2022

 6.  Steeple Repair/Painting - The Finance Committee requests that the Property Committee get some cost estimates so we can determine if or how we can pay for this.

 7.  Insurance renewal

Ø  Payment due by October 1

Ø  Insurance Company has made some modifications due to the pandemic and have offered a discount if we change to a higher deductible

Ø  Ed is going to scan and email the details to Finance Committee members.  Committee members need to reply asap to allow time for us to make a decision by September 20th so that Session members have time to be notified before the September Session meeting on September 23.

 8.  2022 Budget – Committee Moderators need to make their budget requests in writing (either on paper or via email) to Sandy Moore by October 17th (prior to the next Finance Meeting on October 18)

 9.  Joy Scholarship –

Ø  Joy Scholarship deadline is 10/1 for the Spring Semester.

Ø    Sandy will contact our most recent recipients and it will be publicized in newsletter

Ø  Ed made a motion; Bill seconded the following:  Retroactive suspension of our rule to disburse scholarships directly to the educational institution and approve the reimbursement directly to Yvonne Chi for her schooling costs for the Fall Semester because her online school is the American University of Antigua College of Medicine which is out of the country.  Motion carred.

Next meeting – TUESDAY – October 18 – 1:00 pm  (different week than usual because Paul will be in town)

Ø  Location is Sandy Moore’s home at this point…but it could be changed to church

Ø  Bill Melewski will give the devotional

Pastor Elizabeth closed the meeting with a prayer.

 Respectively Submitted, Linda Schumacher
