Minutes of Nov. 19, 2015 Finance Committee Meeting

Endowment Committee will have an audio visual on our Endowment Plan every other month starting in January

Request from the M/O committee by Marsha Elbasasni to ask if people, if they wish, to adopt a child or children and play Special Santa for them. Each year Micah provides support for about 200 children. This was approved by the Finance Committee.

Rest of meeting was spent working on the proposed budget.

Minutes of Oct. 14, 2015 Finance Committee Meeting

Members present: Pastor Pat Jackson, Ed Ingram, Paul Luce, Don Pine, Don Young, Bill Melewski

Endowment Committee looking into making a sign reminding members of our endowment fund and how they could support the fund.

Stewardship- We will have an easel in parlor for members to write down a few of the things they are grateful for and the blessings that Blue Ridge Presbyterian Church has brought them over the years.

Stewardship Sunday will be Nov. 15. Pledge cards and a letter will be mailed by Nov. 1.

Continued work on the Manuel of Operations.

Paul Luce has told the committee that he would be willing to continue as our Treasurer if needed. He would do his work by computer and some phone calls. Paul has done an outstanding job as our Treasurer for a number of years and this is a wonderful offer that Paul has given to us.

Minutes of Sept. 9, 2015 Finance Committee Meeting

Ed opened with prayer

Approved a request for the Heart of America Chorus to put on a free will offering concert at the church on 10/2/2015 from 6-10PM. Any monies donated will go towards helping defray the cost of going to competition.

Discussed plans to promote our Endowment Fund during the 65th Anniversary Celebration.

Worked on updating  the Manuel of Operations as it applies to the Finance Committee. More work to be done.

Discussed plans of Stewardship this fall. Our theme will be on Gratitude and what Blue Ridge Presbyterian Church has met to each of us in our lives. Several people will be asked to give a 30 to 60 second video on this. Stewardship Sunday will be on Nov. 15, 2015.

We still need to find a replacement for our treasurer Paul Luce who will be moving to Texas sometime after April next year.

Reviewed the Financial Statements

The committee awarded Stacy Schumacher $1000 from the Joy Scholarship fund. She is pursuing a Master’s Degree in Educational Technology from Central Missouri State.

In conjunction with our celebration of our 65^th anniversary here at BRPC we will seek donations to our Endowment Fund. We have a little over $1600 in the fund and would like to see it grow.

The committee would like to identify someone from the congregation who could be our next treasurer. As you know, Paul and Sue will be moving to Dallas sometime next year and we would like Paul to be able to give some training to the next treasurer.

Discussed plans for fall Stewardship.

Next meeting: Due to some conflicts the next meeting will be on Sept. 9 at 6PM.

Minutes of June 8, 2015 Finance Committee Meeting

We received one request for scholarship aid from the Joy Scholarship Fund. Stacy Schumacher is pursuing  a Master of Science degree in Educational Technology at Central Missouri Univ. in Warrensburg, MO. She has 3 classes left to complete her degree. The Finance Committee voted to give her $1000 towards her degree.

The Finance Committee also agreed to take up to $800 out of Memorial funds to help fund camp expense at Heartland Camp.

Property Committee has requested funds to purchase motion sensors for the church. This money will also be taken from various Memorial funds. The cost is between $800- $900.

We have taken Jean Martin off the list of signees for our account at Presbytery Foundation and added Ed Ingram and Bill Melewski.

Paul Luce has informed the committee that he and Sue will be moving to Dallas sometime after April of next year. We need to begin thinking of a replacement for Paul so that he can give them several months of training.

Minutes of April 13, 2015 Finance Meeting

Ed opened with devotion and prayer

The Endowment Committee chaired by Don Young is ready to inform our congregation of the BRPC Endowment Fund. If approved by Session, this will start on May 3 with an announcement in church followed with weekly articles in church bulletin for 4 weeks, then quarterly.

We are now receiving quarterly payments from the Joy Foundation and have $1577 in a restricted account. Applications for the fall grant must be received by the Committee by June 1.

Pastor Pat, Linda Schumacher, and Ed Ingram attended a Stewardship Kaleidoscope hosted by our Presbytery at the Airport Hilton last month and received lots of good information on Stewardship that we will be discussing in our Finance Meetings.

Old Business: The Endowment Committee is formulating plans to announce to the congregation details of our Endowment Plan. This will start on Apr. 19 and run for several Sundays with various  pieces of information on the plan.

New Business: Jane Nutt has asked to be removed from the list of people authorized to sign checks. Gary Oberlander has accepted to be the new signee for our checks.

         We have received another check from the Joy Scholarship Endowment for $788.86. It will be held in a restricted account until dispersed. Complete information about the guidelines of the fund will appear in the April Newsletter for the congregation.

Discussed having a Memorial Plaque to honor those who have remembered the church in their wills and trusts and a book of remembrance for those who have passed away.  Further discussion on this at next meeting.

Old Business: The Endowment Committee now has five members and will soon have their first meeting. The members are Don Young, Moderator, Barry Holmes, Ken Clevenger, Bill Melewski, and Lynn Forsythe.

The following fund raising requests from the Mission and Outreach Committee were approved. 1. Crop Walk-second Sunday of October. 2. Noroc-New Opportunities for Orphaned Children in Romania. 3. Bags of Grace. 4. Raytown Eggstravaganza- candy and plastic eggs. 5. Summer Lunch Program. 6. Bonnie Withers up to 4 Sundays selling items for the benefit of the Summer Lunch Program. 7. Fall Fling (if we have it). 8. PEB (Presbyterian Education Board) help for Pakistani schools. 9. “You are loved”- In lieu of adopting a LINC family in 2014 the committee would like to adopt a family in February or a similar mission. 10. Support of Micah Ministries if needed. 11. Support for Hope for Parmelee. 12. Allow our Girl Scout Troop to sell their cookies.

Finalized  a few changes to budget for 2015 to be presented to the Session for approval.

Approved the Guidelines and Protocol for the Joy Scholarship Fund to be presented to Session for approval.
